The SIRIUS 3RW40 soft starter is designed for standard applications requiring the smooth start-up and run-down of three-phase asynchronous motors. It provides stepless starting, reduces current peaks, prevents mains voltage fluctuations during start-up, relieves the power supply network, reduces mechanical stress in the drive system, and offers significant space and wiring savings compared with star-delta starters and frequency converters. It also ensures maintenance-free switching and very easy operation.
The integrated bypass enables a very compact design and ensures lower heat generation in the control cabinet. Intelligent monitoring functions protect the soft starter against overheating and the motor against overload. In addition, the current during ramp-up can be limited to an adjustable maximum value.
With the integrated remote reset, faults can be cleared quickly and easily from a remote location. Worldwide approvals are available (e.g. IEC and UL/CSA), including for hazardous applications (ATEX or IEC Ex). The 3RW soft starters are available for supply systems up to 690 V across a wide power range, with various control supply voltages and consistently with screw and spring-type terminals. For the 3RW30/40 series, additional variants with 24 V control supply voltage are available.
Some of the 3RW40 units up to size S3, as well as all 3RW44 units, also offer thermistor motor protection. With the optional connecting module, the soft starters can be mounted to circuit breakers, including the variants with spring-type terminals. The optional fan allows even more compact installation in the control cabinet. Simple, efficient, always up to date – the SIRIUS modular system.
